The Ingatestone 5 Mile race is organised by Ingatestone Boys Own Club and in 2025 it celebrated it’s 40th year. The race HQ is the Anglo-European School, which is where the race finishes. It is a low-key event with no chip-timing, no water stations or medals, but is a very enjoyable run. The course is a pleasant semi-rural loop through Fryerning and Beggar Hill, and despite its name doesn’t actually go through Ingatestone town centre. It is surprisingly undulating, with a number of hills. The race has a large contingent of club runners.

Parking is free and in the school, although late arrivals may struggle to find a space.

Entry is allowed on the day, numbers permitting.

This race won the Howard Williams Trophy in 2024, awarded to the best road race in Essex as voted for by the running clubs.
