This event is organised by the Witham Running Club and has 2 events a year on Boxing Day and the May Day bank holiday. The Boxing Day race is 5 miles and May Day event varies each year between 5 and 10 mile events. The HQ for the race is the Witham Rugby Club, with the start about a 500 metre walk from the club. The race finishes at the club itself. The 10 mile circuit is run almost entirely on quiet country lanes, passing through the villages of Fairstead and Terling. The 5 mile circuit stays closer to Witham, with around a third of the run in the town and rest in the countryside. As both are on bank holidays there is almost no traffic. Both courses have surprisingly undulating sections, so the run is harder than you might think. The field is predominantly club runners from local clubs. For example Tiptree Road Runners had over 40 runners in 2023. It has large field especially on Boxing Day, as people want to run-off their Christmas dinner. There is a rather nice water bottle for all finishers, instead of a medal for the May Day event.

Designated parking is at the Maltings Academy car park and is free. However, it is almost ½ mile away, which after a long run can be a trudge, especially on a cold December day. There are nearer places to park on the road, Blunts Hall Road is a good one, as there is a footpath that leads to the rugby club and is only 5 minutes away.  You will see plenty of runners walking that way.

Entry is allowed on the day, numbers permitting.
