This is one of the biggest and arguably best 10k events in the area, with over 1,000 runners and run on a Bank Holiday Monday in May. The village of Hatfield Broad Oak seems to close down for the day to hold the event, with a village fete, flower show and lots of stalls. The race is run on a figure of '8' circuit along country lanes, with an approx. 5k loop one side of the village, then back through the village centre for a loop on the other side. This is a nice idea, as it allows supporters to see their runners pass at the mid-point, as well as great encouragement for the runners with cheering crowds. If you are going to do one race as a supporter, this is the one to go to. The event also has the bonus of giving out brilliant tee-shirts to every finisher. These tops are usually bright luminous colours and can often be spotted at local ParkRuns and gyms in the area.
Car parking is free is in 2 fields behind the church and ample, but if you want to leave straight after the race, avoid the car park where the race finishes (it is the first car park you come to on the road from Takeley), this does not re-open until 1.30 so you could get locked-in. Highly recommended event.
