The Takeley 10k celebrated it's 10th year of running in 2020 and is an event organised by the village for the refurbishment of the Silver Jubilee Hall and Social Club, which is the HQ for the race. The event runs mainly along the Flitch Way, which is an old railway line, now a bridleway and country park. The race starts at the old Takeley railway station, runs for 4k or so west along the Flitch Way, has a 2k loop around fields and footpaths and then returns back along the Flitch Way, finishing in the village hall. The loop used to be in Hatfield Forest, but for reasons only known to themselves, the National Trust have banned all runners. It a well-run event and does get booked up early. Car parking is free and in a field about 300 metres from the HQ, which is the only slight downside of the event. One piece of advice, the start is organised for the fastest runners to go at the front of the field. So to achieve a good time it is recommended to start in your correct timing position. The Flitch Way is quite narrow so faster runners can get held up for the first mile or two until the field spreads out. There is also a 1 mile children's charity event on the day.
